Request of Applications of Support from the Rawlins Endowment

Due Friday - July 3, 2009

The Rawlins endowment supports travel to scientific meetings and domestic travel in support of research.  All students in the graduate field of entomology are eligible to apply.  Questions regarding the Rawlins endowment should be directed to Marian Hartill (mlh7@cornell.edu).  Applications for funding from the Rawlins Endowment are sent out approximately June 1 and December 1 of each year.

The Rawlins Endowment

Professor Emeritus W. Arthur Rawlins and his late wife, Alma D. Rawlins, generously provided the Departments of Entomology (Ithaca and Geneva) a substantial endowment to support entomology graduate students and their studies.  Administration of the proceeds from the endowment is the responsibility of the Entomology Departments (Geneva and Ithaca) through a committee comprised of a graduate student and the Chairs of both Departments.

Rawlins Endowment Proposal Guidelines

  1. The maximum funding available from the Rawlins Endowment per student for the duration of their time at Cornell is $3400.
  2. The maximum support for attending a domestic meeting is $800 per year, and is limited to students who will be presenting data from their work at Cornell.
  3. The maximum support for traveling domestically to conduct research is $800 per year.
  4. The maximum support for attending an international meeting is $1200 per year.
  5. No retroactive funding requests will be considered.
  6. Funds must be spent specifically for the purpose proposed.
  7. Students are required to request travel funds from the Graduate School and factor these into their budget.
  8. Funds will not be provided for routine filing and/or printing of graduate student dissertations.
  9. Students needing support for international travel related to their research should apply to the Griswold fund and/or Graduate School.  The Rawlins fund does not support international travel for research.
  10. Application for support is to be made using the attached application form.
  11. Funds will be provided no more than three times to attend a given meeting, unless there are special circumstances (e.g. present an award lecture).
