Animal and plant pests are ubiquitous features of many natural and man-made systems. Globalization of trade and easy movement of human populations adds to these pest problems by providing avenues for exotic organisms to be become invasive in new habitats. Biological control is touted as one of the best ways of combating both indigenous and exotic pests. Is it? Does it work? Is it safe? Are invasive species something we should be concerned about? Can we predict what species will become invasive? Are invasive species simply a cost of doing business in a world market?
