The Cornell University Landscape Horticulture
Program Work Team has as its mission the following:
- To meet the research and extension needs
of the landscape, nursery, and turfgrass industries of New York
state and beyond
- To develop outreach curricula that will
be available through a variety of delivery strategies and
mechanisms to meet current and emerging industry and societal
needs
- To encourage and facilitate adoption
by professional horticulturists of new and innovative horticultural
management
practices as well as an understanding of the science associated
with these practices
- To improve the competitiveness and profitability
of horticultural businesses and community
organizations
- To facilitate development and utilization
of improved plant material and increased skill level of
practitioners in site assessment and amelioration of human impacted
landscapes
- To facilitate identification and use
of turf and other landscape plants that exhibit stress tolerance,
pest
resistance and other desirable characteristics
- To bring about improved understanding
of plant and pest ecology, including invasive plants, which
could enhance low-impact, sustainable pest management approaches
