Growing Degree-Day Comparisons: 2000 vs. 2001 (cumulative through end of May)
Things evened out considerably during the month of May. Whereas most stations were considerably higher in 2001 vs. 2000 for the month of April, we saw a reversal in many locations (8 of 22 stations), which brought the seasonal accumulation for 2001 to virtually the same point as that for 2000. The remaining locations continued their torrid pace, exceeding last year's seasonal accumulations by quite a bit (the biggest differential was for Buffalo, which was 75 GDD ahead of last year at the end of May).
