Physical description: This is a low-growing creeping, mound-forming groundcover that grows to 6 inches. The small, shiny deep green leaves are flushed with burgundy as the weather gets cooler, and the color intensifies as the temperature drops. In spring, it covers itself with 0.5 inch lavender blue flowers with white eye and dark blue veins that can rebloom on and off throughout the summer and fall.

Optimal growing conditions: This plant grows well in any poor to moderately fertile, well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. In winter moisture, it should be protected with felted leaves.

Susceptibility to pests and diseases: This plant has no serious insect or disease problems. However, scale insects, downy mildew, powdery mildew, rust, leaf smut, and root rot can occur.

Use: This is an excellent groundcover, edging plant, or alpine plant for border front or rock garden. It is also good at softening the edges of stone paths and walls.
