Physical description: Fairy wings have 1 inch wide, bright yellow flowers held on 16 inch, delicate, wiry stems. The deep green leaves are divided into 9 leaflets with dense marginal spines. The leaves are very attractive when they are mottled red in spring. Fairy wings grow to 12 inches.

Optimal growing conditions: Fairy wings grow best in fertile, humus-rich, moist, and well-drained soil in partially shaded area under trees and shrubs.

Susceptibility to pests and diseases: Leaf spot and anthracnose can be a problem. Vine weevil and mosaic virus may be a problem .

Use: This plant looks good in the front of a border or bed, in rock gardens, woodland gardens, or as a groundcover.
