Physical description: Buffalograss is a low growing, fine leafed perennial that forms an attractive turf with a soft blue green color. Without mowing, the narrow leave curl downward to give a soft, prairie look.

Optimal growing conditions: Buffalograss grows best in dry areas with less than 25 inches of annual rainfall. It tolerates prolonged droughts, very high or low temperatures (+120 to -30 degrees Fahrenheit), periods of flooding, and compacted soil. When there is limited water supply, buffalograss is very competitive against weeds. Because of this, it can be used as an effective weed barrier.

Susceptibility to pests and diseases: Buffalograss has no serious pest or disease problems.

Use: Buffalograss is ideal as pasturage and lawns in residential and commercial areas or golf greens in low rainfall areas. This plant can also be used for erosion control.
