"Apterygota". The so-called apterygote orders are, in general, poorly represented in our collection. We have only a small number of vials among the alcoholic series, and the most extensive representation is in the Collembola, where we have a little over 100 microscope slide mounts of springtails, mostly voucher specimens from a study by S.K. Gilmore on the feeding behavior and nutrition of nematode-feeding collembolans; a considerable number of slide mounts of local (Ithaca area) collembolans were recently presented by D. Behm, but have not yet been incorporated into the collection (the slides need to be ringed in some cases, and labeled more completely throughout). Our plans to build a research resource of berlese residue samples will provide a treasure trove of material in the general area of "apterygotes", the use pattern for which will be determined as interest and opportunity dictate in the years ahead.
